MEDIA RELEASE Issued: June 13, 2000 New Photo Service Posts Photos On-Line A new Australian company has launched a revolutionary combined photo and digital service offering digital photos on-line. Once the photos are on-line, they can easily be viewed from anywhere in the world or directly e-mailed to family, friends or business associates. The company, EXTRAFILM is a joint venture between Australia and Spector Photo Group, one of Europe’s largest photo industry corporations. EXTRAFILM is headed by Rob Tolmie, well regarded as the founder of large-scale mail order photo finishing in Australia. Kodak acquired his company, National Photo Marketing Pty Ltd. Tolmie separated from Kodak last year. Said Robert Tolmie, "The new company brings fast, reliable and inexpensive photos and the ability to email them within the reach of all Australians. Now it's easy to share your photos with family and friends all over the world." The system simply requires the photographer to mail their conventional photo films to EXTRAFILM’s central lab for processing. On arrival at the lab, the film is processed, scanned and posted to a secure section on the EXTRAFILM website. Within 12 hours of the film’s arrival at the plant, the photographer is emailed a secure link to their photos on the Extra Film website. This link can easily be shared with friends so that everyone can see the photos, or you can simply select some photos and email them directly from the website. The photos can also be made into electronic greeting cards. EXTRAFILM customers can also elect to have photos scanned at high resolution onto CDs. Apart from offering a permanent archive for photos this provides the opportunity to use the home PC for a host of projects using photos. On the conventional photo front, within a week, EXTRAFILM’s customers are mailed a complete set of prints from $6.95. An Index print is included, that shows each photo on the roll in one standard print.
